M carbon-ceramic brakes

Use specialized discs designed for demanding thermal conditions.

Where it sits

At the wheel hubs on BMW M models with the relevant option.

How it works

A ceramic composite friction system is paired with matching pads and controls; inspection requirements differ from iron discs.

Think of it as

A heat-resistant alternative to a conventional metal friction plate.

Symptoms when it fails

Chips, impact damage or changed braking behavior need the correct inspection procedure.

Lifespan

Pads and discs are measured wear items. Driving, environment and regenerative braking change wear; use the actual inspection limits.

Repair cost

Ordinary friction service differs greatly from carbon-ceramic replacement or hydraulic-controller work; obtain a vehicle-specific quote.

The BMW angle

BMW describes its M carbon-ceramic brakes as offering high heat resistance and reduced weight; they are not fitted to every M car.

Used in

BMW M models equipped with the specific M carbon-ceramic brake option. An M Sport appearance package does not establish this fitment.
