Air & turbo

Turbo diverter valve

Relieves compressed intake air when operating conditions call for it.

Where it sits

On the compressor or connected charge-air plumbing.

How it works

It routes compressed air back toward the inlet on recirculating designs to manage transient airflow.

Think of it as

A bypass door preventing air from backing up at a fan.

Symptoms when it fails

Loss of boost, air noise or control faults can have several intake-system causes.

Lifespan

Filters follow the vehicle service schedule; ducts and boost hardware are inspected for condition, sealing and operation.

Repair cost

A hose or filter is generally simpler to service than a turbo assembly. Access and diagnosis can dominate cost.

The BMW angle

BMW recirculating valves should not be confused with aftermarket atmospheric blow-off valves.

Used in

BMW combustion models; boost hardware applies to turbocharged engines only.
