The compact M car gains the S55.
The M2 Competition uses the S55 twin-turbo straight-six rather than the N55 from the original M2. The change makes the Competition badge more than a cosmetic detail in this case.

An original F87 M2 and an M2 Competition use different engine families.
S55 · Inline-six
The M2 Competition uses the S55 3.0-litre six-cylinder with two turbochargers, replacing the original M2’s N55 engine. Its cooling and oil supply are adapted for demanding driving.

S55 · Petrol
The M2 Competition uses the S55 3.0-litre six-cylinder with two turbochargers, replacing the original M2’s N55 engine. Its cooling and oil supply are adapted for demanding driving.
Two turbochargers
Two exhaust-driven turbochargers compress the intake air. Charge-air cooling removes heat added during compression.
Rear-wheel drive
The rear-drive layout is paired with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission. An Active M Differential manages rear-axle locking.
