Electric drive & charging

Onboard AC charger

Converts incoming AC power into charging power for the battery.

Where it sits

In the vehicle’s power-electronics or charging assembly.

How it works

It controls AC-to-DC conversion within vehicle and supply limits; DC fast charging follows a different power path.

Think of it as

A charging adapter built into the car.

Symptoms when it fails

AC charging failure may involve the station, cable, settings, supply or vehicle equipment.

Lifespan

Battery and drive components are assessed with system diagnostics and model-specific warranty and service guidance, not a universal expiry age.

Repair cost

High-voltage work requires trained facilities. A complete pack differs from a serviceable module, sensor or charging-port repair; no numeric quote is asserted.

The BMW angle

A BMW’s AC charging limit is not the same specification as its DC fast-charging peak.

Used in

BMW battery-electric and plug-in-hybrid vehicles as equipped; generation and architecture matter.
