The M5 plugs in.
The G90 combines a twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor. Its headline output belongs to the coordinated hybrid system, which makes it a useful lesson in why motor and engine figures cannot simply be added.

Battery, charging and combustion-system condition all matter.
The headline hybrid output is a system rating, not the V8’s individual rating.
S68 + eDrive · V8 + electric motor
The G90 combines a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 with an electric motor integrated into its transmission. The headline 727 PS and 1,000 Nm are combined system figures; the petrol engine alone develops 585 PS and 750 Nm.

S68 + eDrive · Plug-in hybrid
The G90 combines a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 with an electric motor integrated into its transmission. The headline 727 PS and 1,000 Nm are combined system figures; the petrol engine alone develops 585 PS and 750 Nm.
Two turbochargers
Two exhaust-driven turbochargers compress the intake air. Charge-air cooling removes heat added during compression.
M xDrive all-wheel drive
An eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive distribute the hybrid system’s drive torque. A rechargeable high-voltage battery also enables electric-only driving.
Understand the system figures
The petrol engine and electric motor reach their peaks at different operating points. Combined system output is the factory-rated capability of the coordinated drivetrain, not the sum of both individual peak ratings. The engine sound mode illustrates the V8 only.
